Job Description
Our client is a well established Canadian resource producer supplying critical raw materials to global steel markets. Since its formation less than a decade ago, the organisation has grown into a multi-site operation employing over a thousand people and playing a meaningful role in the economic strength of the communities where it operates.
Guided by values centred on safety, accountability, growth, and sustainability, the company is committed to responsible resource development and long-term operational performance.
This role supports a strategically important asset in Northern British Columbia that is currently in maintenance and monitoring mode while advancing staged permitting toward future operations. Environmental stewardship is not a support function here. It is a core operational pillar.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Environmental Manager will serve as the senior environmental leader on site, accountable for regulatory compliance, permitting advancement, stakeholder engagement, and environmental readiness for production.
This is a community based role. The company does not operate on a camp or rotational model. The successful candidate will relocate and integrate into the local region. Structured relocation assistance and temporary housing support are provided.
For an Environmental Superintendent or senior Manager seeking executive level visibility and the opportunity to shape the future of a producing asset, this position offers real influence and long term impact.
Responsibilities
- Assume full site accountability for environmental compliance with all provincial and federal legislation, permit conditions, and regulatory approvals
- Lead the environmental strategy required to advance staged permitting and support future operational restart
- Serve as the primary environmental interface with regulators and Indigenous communities
- Provide strategic environmental leadership to the General Manager and site leadership team
- Integrate environmental risk management into operational and production planning
- Lead all environmental monitoring programs, including water management, air quality, environmental effects monitoring, and compliance reporting
- Interpret complex environmental datasets and convert findings into defensible operational controls
- Drive proactive environmental risk identification and implementation of mitigation strategies
- Oversee environmental project execution, including consultant management, budgeting, and regulatory deliverables
- Lead, develop, and scale the environmental team in alignment with site progression
- Ensure Environmental Management Systems are robust, audit-ready, and operationally embedded
- Champion environmental performance as a core pillar of site leadership
Requirements
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geochemistry, or related discipline
- Progressive environmental leadership experience within mining or heavy industry environments
- Demonstrated experience operating at Superintendent level or as the senior environmental authority on a mine site
- Strong track record of permitting within British Columbia
- Deep understanding of BC mining and environmental legislation
- Experience leading regulator engagement, permit amendments, and compliance strategy
- Proven ability to influence site leadership and integrate environmental objectives into operational decision making
- Strong leadership capability with experience building and mentoring environmental teams
- Demonstrated experience managing environmental performance at sites in care and maintenance or transition phases is considered highly advantageous
