Job Description

As our client transitions from exploration toward development, the Company is seeking a Vice President, Sustainability to lead one of the most critical phases of the project’s lifecycle.

The Vice President, Sustainability will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will lead the company’s environmental, permitting, and stakeholder engagement strategy as its flagship project advances toward development.

This role will be responsible for developing and executing the permitting, environmental and socioeconomic baseline programs, as well as the community, government, and regulatory engagement approach required to secure major mine approvals.

Working closely with technical teams, regulators, and local communities, the VP Sustainability will design and execute the strategy required to secure major federal, state, and local approvals, including leading the project through NEPA and EIS processes.

The successful candidate will work directly with the CEO and leadership team to guide regulatory strategy, oversee environmental baseline programs, and build the sustainability and permitting capability required to achieve final approvals for mine construction and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the end-to-end permitting strategy, including federal (NEPA/EIS), state, and local approvals required for mine and infrastructure development
  • Design and execute the regulatory pathway, engaging proactively with agencies such as USACE, BLM, and State of Alaska regulators
  • Lead all environmental baseline and socioeconomic studies, ensuring technical rigor and alignment with permitting requirements
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with local communities, Alaska Native organizations, and key stakeholders, with a strong focus on long-term partnership and respect
  • Lead government and stakeholder engagement at the highest levels, including navigating complex political, regulatory, and community dynamics
  • Oversee consultants and internal teams, ensuring alignment, accountability, and execution against permitting timelines
  • Partner with technical and project teams to ensure permitting requirements are integrated into engineering, exploration, and development plans
  • Report directly to executive leadership and the Board on permitting strategy, risks, and milestones

Requirements

  • 10–15+ years of experience in sustainability, environmental management, permitting, or related roles within mining or natural resources.
  • Experience permitting mining projects in Alaska strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with regulators, communities, and government stakeholders on resource development projects.
  • Strong understanding of mine permitting and environmental regulatory processes.
