Job Description
Our client is a globally recognized specialist consultancy focused on environmental geochemical risk management within the mining sector. With decades of experience and a track record across hundreds of projects worldwide, the business supports mining companies in solving complex challenges related to acid rock drainage, mine waste, and water geochemistry.
As part of its strategic expansion into the Americas, the firm is establishing a Vancouver office to serve as the regional hub for Canadian and international mining clients. This hire will play a pivotal role in launching and leading this operation.
The Principal Environmental Geochemist will act as both a technical leader and business builder, responsible for establishing the firm’s presence in Canada, developing client relationships, and building a high performing local team. This individual will work closely with the global leadership team and leverage an existing international project portfolio to drive growth.
Responsibilities
- Establish and lead the Vancouver office, acting as the focal point for Canadian operations
- Drive business development across Canada and the Americas, developing client relationships and securing new work
- Balance technical delivery with commercial growth, ensuring strong utilization and revenue contribution
- Collaborate with global teams to execute projects and integrate Canadian operations into the wider business
- Provide technical leadership on environmental geochemistry projects, with a focus on acid rock drainage and mine waste
- Deliver advisory work across feasibility, operations, and long-term environmental management
- Oversee the preparation and quality of technical reports and client deliverables
- Lead field programs and site investigations as required to support project delivery
- Represent the business at conferences, training sessions, and industry engagements
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high caliber technical team in Canada
Requirements
- 10 to 15 years of experience in environmental geochemistry within mining or consulting
- Demonstrated track record of business development and contributing to revenue growth
- Experience operating within a consulting environment, including managing projects and client relationships
- Deep technical expertise in environmental geochemistry within mining environments
- Strong understanding of Canadian environmental regulations and permitting frameworks
- Experience leading or mentoring technical professionals
- Ability to operate independently while collaborating within a global team
- Strong capability in analyzing technical data and interpreting geochemical results
- Experience leading field programs in mining or resource settings
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly
- Professional designation or eligibility such as P.Geo or P.Eng
- Spanish language capability considered advantageous
