Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Geochemist to provide technical leadership, project delivery, and team development. within its environmental geochemistry consulting practice.
This is a senior consulting position combining specialist technical work, project management, client engagement, and the opportunity to mentor and develop a growing technical team. The successful candidate will lead environmental geochemistry programs across mining and natural resources projects, working alongside geochemists, geologists, hydrogeologists, environmental scientists, and other technical specialists.
Reporting to the Principal Geochemist, the Lead Geochemist will form part of the broader team leadership group, supporting project delivery, team development, resourcing, and strong client relationships. They will also contribute technical expertise to proposals, client development initiatives, and other business development activities as the practice continues to grow.
Responsibilities
- Plan, project manage, and deliver environmental geochemical investigation programs.
- Apply specialist environmental geochemistry expertise to deliver high-quality technical services across mining and natural resources projects.
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams of geochemists, geologists, hydrogeologists, environmental scientists, and other technical specialists to meet project requirements.
- Design bespoke testing programs and modify established testing methodologies where required to address specific project issues or technical questions.
- Manage project scope, budgets, resources, staff utilization, and commercial performance to support successful and profitable project outcomes.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through high quality technical delivery and trusted technical advice.
- Identify potential opportunities arising through existing projects and client relationships and communicate these to the Principal Geochemist and broader leadership team.
- Support proposals, technical presentations, client meetings, industry events, and the development of new consulting assignments through appropriate technical input
- Work closely with the Principal Geochemist and broader leadership team to support team planning, resourcing, recruitment, and capability development.
- Mentor and develop technical professionals, supporting the continued growth and capability of the team.
- Contribute as a member of the broader team leadership group, supporting a collaborative, technically strong, and commercially focused culture.
- Maintain a strong level of billable project activity while balancing technical delivery, client relationships, and team leadership responsibilities.
- Maintain flexibility to work in both field and office environments as project requirements dictate.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with applicable health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience in environmental geochemistry within the mining or natural resources sector.
- Strong technical expertise in environmental geochemistry, including acid rock drainage and metal leaching prediction, characterization, and management.
- Experience planning, managing, and delivering environmental geochemical investigation programs.
- Demonstrated ability to develop or modify geochemical testing programs to address specific technical and project requirements.
- Experience leading complex technical projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong commercial awareness, including experience managing project budgets, resources, staff utilization, and project outcomes within a consulting environment.
- Strong client relationship skills with the ability to establish credibility as a trusted technical advisor.
- Experience supporting proposals, client development initiatives, and the securing of consulting assignments.
- Experience mentoring and developing technical professionals.
- Ability to provide day-to-day technical and project leadership while working collaboratively with the Principal Geochemist and broader leadership team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical subject matter clearly to clients and project stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Willingness to undertake field work and travel as required
