Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Director, Americas to support the continued establishment and growth of its Canadian operations and wider expansion across the Americas.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a senior leadership position combining commercial laboratory development, people leadership, client development, and broader business growth. A central priority will be establishing and developing a specialized laboratory capability in Canada, while helping build a high performing regional team and developing client relationships across the mining and natural resources industry.
The successful candidate will bring strong commercial and operational judgement, experience leading people, and the ability to develop new business. They will work closely with Principals and technical leaders across Canada and the wider international business, ensuring the regional operation has the people, laboratory capability, systems, and commercial foundation required for sustainable growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead the continued establishment and development of the Canadian operation as the platform for wider growth across the Americas.
- Scope, establish and commercially develop a specialized laboratory capability in Canada, including infrastructure, accreditation, staffing, operating requirements and commercial viability.
- Maintain oversight of regional commercial performance, including revenue, utilization, resource deployment and progress against agreed business objectives.
- Work closely with Principals and technical leaders to support client development and ensure consulting and laboratory resources are effectively deployed.
- Drive business development across Canada and the wider Americas, developing client relationships, building pipeline and securing new work.
- Assist with recruitment, then lead and develop the Canadian team, ensuring resources and capabilities align with business and client requirements.
- Collaborate with international leadership and technical teams to share resources, execute projects and integrate the Canadian operation into the wider business.
- Ensure the Canadian operation maintains the appropriate professional registrations, laboratory accreditation, quality systems and operating processes required to support continued growth.
- Represent the business through client meetings, conferences, professional associations and other relevant industry activities.
- Contribute to regional business planning and the development of a collaborative, commercially focused and high performing culture.
Requirements
- Professional chemistry designation such as P.Chem., or an equivalent relevant professional chemistry credential.
- Significant leadership experience within commercial laboratories, mining, environmental consulting, technical consulting or a closely related sector.
- Demonstrated experience establishing, developing, managing or materially growing a commercial laboratory operation.
- Strong understanding of laboratory operations and economics, including accreditation, staffing, cost structures, throughput and commercial performance.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, with experience managing budgets, revenue and business performance.
- Proven business development capability, including developing client relationships, building pipeline and securing new work.
- Strong understanding of the mining or natural resources industry and the credibility to engage technical professionals and senior client stakeholders.
- Ability to operate autonomously and translate business objectives into practical commercial and operational action.
- Proven experience leading, recruiting and developing technical teams.
- Knowledge of environmental geochemistry, acid rock drainage, metal leaching or related disciplines would be advantageous.
- Spanish language capability would be advantageous.
- Willingness to travel approximately 20% to 40% throughout Canada and the Americas.
